Living on St. John's Cathedral
There are places where you simply "feel" the history. This is certainly true in the streets surrounding St. John's Cathedral. In a city dating back to 1185 and next to a cathedral whose construction began in 1380, you can rightly say you live on historic grounds. Not only the streetscape and the historic buildings, but also the tranquility of yesteryear is still present. Even now, this is the best corner of the city. After all, in which city can you say you live between the Parade and the polder? You can cycle or walk around the polder in the morning, enjoying the deer, waterfowl, and fresh air. A highly recommended starting point. There's always something happening on the Parade. You're only a few steps away, but you won't notice it in your street or in your home. The train station is about a 10-minute walk away. And the car? It's safely parked in the secure parking space directly below your apartment. You can step straight in from the elevator.
The complex is home to friendly people with similar backgrounds and life views. Each and every one of them has chosen this prime location.
A class apart
It's quite special to find this modern home behind the historic facade. During the renovation/reconstruction, only the front facade remained. With the tall windows, that history still permeates your luxury apartment. And thankfully so. The ceiling height on the facade is still approximately 580 cm. Beautiful, and it allows light to penetrate deeply into your home. Where a loggia was planned in 2001, there's now a space that can be used year-round. So even on a summer day, it can be used as a loggia by opening the large, tall windows. A cozy seating area and the kitchen are located downstairs.
Understated top quality
Don't be misled by the understated style of this kitchen. Poggenpohl created thoughtful, high-quality custom work tailored to the owner's wishes. This exceptionally practical and functional kitchen has everything you need to make a culinary splash. Behind the sleek design, you'll find a dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, induction cooktop, extractor hood, combination grill oven, oven, microwave, plate warmer, and wine cooler. There's an anti-reflective natural stone countertop, good lighting, and ample storage space. Even more space can be found in the utility room, which houses the washing machine connections, central heating boiler, and water softener.
Library
On the street side, you'll find the library. Here, too, a beautiful high ceiling. On a slightly cloudy day, it's bright here, but when the sun comes out, you'll be amazed. The abundant light can be tempered with wooden Jasno blinds. There's a beautiful classic fireplace with a bio-ethanol fire, connected to a central exhaust system via a damper. With a few adjustments, this library space could also be transformed into a fantastic bedroom. It's on the same level as the living area. But the house offers plenty of opportunities for long-term living for all ages and mobility levels.
Mezzanine with a large plus
The easy-access staircase leads to the sleeping area. This staircase could easily be fitted with a lift if desired for those with reduced mobility. The mezzanine is so large that the seller has installed a comfortable, functional reading chair. There's also a sofa bed for guests or a helper (which will remain). The wall of cabinets provides ample storage space and good privacy from the stairs. If necessary, a door to the dressing room could be made for an extra bedroom.
Everything at your fingertips
The bedroom is designed so that you'll have everything you need right at your fingertips. Naturally, there's plenty of space for the bed and bedside tables. Through the sliding door into the living room and further through the tall windows in the living room, you have a beautiful view of the courtyard. The bathroom and walk-in dressing room are en suite to this bedroom. There's also plenty of room for a sofa and TV. The walk-in dressing room was created from an originally planned mezzanine. A truly wonderful and very rewarding space. The dressing room is fully equipped for organized and practical storage of all your clothes.
Tasteful again
With soft tones, large tiles, and a well-designed layout, a double walk-in shower was installed in 2018, which you'll thoroughly enjoy. The floor is tiled with non-slip underfloor heating. The Geberit Mera AquaClean toilet is placed behind a low wall for privacy. There's a double shower and a slightly raised vanity with two sinks and a heated mirror. Towels and other bathroom utensils can be conveniently stored in cupboards and on open glass shelves.
Practical, safe, and complete
In the parking garage, you'll find your own marked parking space. Scraping windows is a thing of the past. Perhaps it's finally time for that convertible! It's possible to have a charging station for an electric car installed next to your parking space. The infrastructure is already in place. In the basement, next to the elevator, you'll find a storage room and the household waste disposal container. Sensor lighting keeps your hands free. The current owner stores his rechargeable electric bicycles here. Your bicycle may also be stored in the shared racks in the parking garage near the stairwell and elevator.
